A reference site about living with dogs — feeding them, training them, noticing when something is wrong, and knowing when the answer is to stop reading and call a vet.
What this site is for
Most dog questions are asked at an awkward moment: late at night, on a phone, with a worried animal in the room. The answers available are usually either a forum thread of confident strangers or a clinical page written for practitioners. Neither is much use to someone who simply wants to know whether this is normal.
DogFollowers exists to sit between the two. Articles are written for owners rather than for professionals, in plain language, but they are built from veterinary and animal-welfare sources rather than from anecdote — and they say clearly when the honest answer is that you need a vet.
What we cover
- Nutrition and feeding — what to feed, how much, life-stage changes, and the foods that are genuinely dangerous.
- Health and prevention — recognising symptoms, routine care, parasites, dental health, and ageing.
- Behaviour and training — housetraining, reactivity, separation problems, and what current evidence supports.
- Breeds — what particular breeds need, and the health conditions they are predisposed to.
- Everyday practicalities — grooming, travel, apartment living, exercise, and equipment.
How articles are written
Every article starts from published sources: peer-reviewed veterinary literature, guidance from veterinary and animal-welfare organisations, and the manufacturer information that accompanies medications and diets. Where evidence is genuinely mixed, we say so rather than picking the tidier answer.
We try to be specific about uncertainty. "This is well established", "this is likely", "this is debated" and "nobody knows" are four different statements, and collapsing them into a confident paragraph is how pet advice goes wrong. Where a figure depends on your dog's weight, age or health, we say that rather than printing a number that looks authoritative and does not apply to your animal.
Articles are dated, and they are updated when guidance changes rather than left to age quietly.
What we are not
This is a publication, not a veterinary practice. Nothing here is veterinary advice for your particular dog, and no article can substitute for someone examining the animal in front of them. If your dog is unwell, injured, or may have eaten something toxic, contact a vet or an emergency service — immediately, and before you finish reading.
We cannot answer individual questions about a specific dog's health by email, and we will always tell you to see a vet, because that is the correct answer.
Corrections
Getting something wrong on a site about animal health matters more than getting it wrong elsewhere. If you find an error, write to contact@dogfollowers.com with a link to the article and, if you have one, a source. Substantive corrections are made to the article itself; typographical errors are simply fixed. We aim to respond within 3 working days.
Independence
At the time of writing, this site carries no third-party advertising and accepts no payment for editorial coverage. No manufacturer, retailer or brand reviews articles before publication or has any say in what is recommended. If a commercial relationship is ever introduced, it will be disclosed on the article it affects.
